World’s First Flexible Organic Transistor

Flexible Organic Transistor

Group of Japanese researchers at Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) has succeeded in manufacturing on polymeric film the world’s first sterilizable flexible organic transistor featuring a high thermo stability at 150 degrees Celsius and low driving voltage at 2V. The new transistor is durable enough to be subjected to high temperature medical sterilization process. The major key in achieving heat resistance organic transistor is in forming technique of an ultrathin insulator film which is based on developing a technique to form extraordinary densely packed self-assembled monolayer (SAM) films with thickness as small as 2 nanometers on a polymeric film.

The application of newly developed transistor includes long term implantable devices, some medical devices such as a smart catheter as well as thin film sensor capable of detecting tumors, inflammation as well as cancers.
